AFTON, Va. , June 06, 2005/ --Cole Software LLC and Farsight Systems Corp. are pleased to announce Cole Software’s acquisition of Farsight’s z/Debug product.
z/Debug is a GUI-based debugging technology built expressly for use by programmers using the Systems/C cross-platform compiler from Dignus LLC. Its client/server technology makes heavy use of new design methodologies, and it communicates from the mainframe to the client PC via TCP/IP to a Java-based GUI application running on the client.
z/XDC is the premier debugging tool for sophisticated programmers who work at the fundamental levels of the z/OS operating system. Over the last 27 years, z/XDC has become the tool of choice for such people, and is used by most of the world’s mainframe software development laboratories. z/XDC is also used by Fortune 500 Development Programming groups in the support of legacy applications and system/vendor exits.
David B. Cole, President of Cole Software LLC, has served as z/XDC’s architect and principal developer throughout the life of the product. Mr. Cole is a recognized authority in mainframe Assembler Language, IBM operating system internals and z/XDC.
Jeffrey Smith, President of Farsight Systems, is a gifted programmer, and a former company officer of Cole Software LLC. His experience with Cole Software and z/XDC is what inspired him to create z/Debug, a natural complement to z/XDC’s functionality.
Cole Software’s acquisition of z/Debug positions it to begin serving C language programmers. Cole Software intends to release z/Debug under the name “c/XDC-Lite”™, making it available to Systems/C customers world-wide as a beta release. Cole Software will be entirely responsible for the ongoing support and enhancement of c/XDC-Lite under the administration of Frank Chu, Development Programmer at Cole Software LLC. In the future, Cole Software will expand c/XDC-Lite’s capabilities significantly into other C compilers under the name c/XDC. Also, eventually Cole Software expects to combine the best technologies of z/XDC and c/XDC-Lite into a seamlessly integrated pair of products.
Dave Cole and Jeffrey Smith are pleased to make this announcement, which grows out of their complementary skill-sets and a collegial correspondence which has continued throughout their association.
